Hi All,
I was reading on business start ups and came across Organic Farming as a business and how college could incorporate this idea in having an organic farm in campus. Wait a second.....Why are we talking about things like organic? and farming? have I gone mad!!!! We are an arts and science college!
Well, I believe that we all need to know what we consume on a daily basis. The vegetables and fruits we purchase everyday. Are they good, nutritious and most importantly safe? Many fruits and vegetables that we get in the market as sprayed with huge amount of pesticides and chemicals and many of them are made 'ready for us ' because of the demand in the market. For eg. Have you ever wondered some of the bananas which looked ripe are artificially made ripe at fast pace by spraying ethylene gas! Yaaaaak! :(
Well..lets not get into the details! The point is, we all should know that vegetable and fruits which are grown organically (using natural manures such as cow dung and food waste, vermi-compost) are the most nutritious, tasty and off course safe.
How about having a mini organic farm project in the Campus!?? We could grow some fruits and vegetables as a hobby and we can even eat them as we know that they are fresh and nutritious! :)
We could invite students from schools and teach them about organic farming and spread the word! :)
We can get involved in this activity for fun, to be curious about plants and for stress relief from our daily work as well!! Well...I personally love to be with nature and why not get our hands dirty for a while!!!!!!!!:)
Well, later once we grow lot of vegetables we could always supply the vegetables to local restaurants and our own College Canteen! Now that's where business comes in! Hows that! :)
So please comment on this post and let me know what you think of this and please share more ideas that we could do in campus!
